2 Corinthians 5:17 – Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come!

If you are like me, you have said several times already, I cannot wait for 2020 to be over. For many of us, we are hoping that 2021 will be a fresh start. That is often how we look at the beginning of a new year. It is our ability to start over. This is why we set resolutions. We accept that we did not do everything the way we wanted to the previous year, so we resolve to do things better the next year.

Here in 1 Corinthians, we also ready about a new beginning. If we are in Christ everything that was before now has passed away. This word passed away carries with it the idea of people moving forward. People moving past something.

Are there things in your life that you need to move past? Are there parts of your life that are hurting you physically, emotionally, or spiritually that you know it is time to let go? If you are a Christian, Jesus made you a new creation. He gave you the opportunity and ability to leave behind those parts of your life that were affecting you in a negative way.

As we all look at this new year with hope and expectancy that things will be better. Let us each take a look at our lives with the same level of hope and expectancy. Jesus already set us free from all the filth and baggage we carry around. Let go of those things and take on the identity of the new creation. In doing that, we can live the full life that Jesus promised us.
